Do you work at home? Live near a busy road? Worry about the quality of your indoor air?

Fear not, for we have a nice and easy solution to all your woes.

Keeping a nice supply of healthy and luscious indoor houseplants can really help to improve your environment.

If you don’t believe us, then perhaps you will believe that well known space travel company: NASA?

In all seriousness, NASA published a clean air study way back in 1989 that suggested a number of common indoor plants actually help to improve the air quality in homes and buildings by removing toxins such as benzene, formaldehyde, and trichloroethylene from the environment. Initially meant to help improve the air on board space-faring craft, the plants listed in the study can also be applied to the home planet.

We’ve put together a list of our three favourite air-cleaning plants.

Spider Plants
Spider plants are not only almost entirely un-killable, they also remove formaldehyde form the air which has to be a good thing. These guys are so easy to grow and so easy to propagate.

Peace Lily
Peace Lilies not only look stunning, but they also remove some seriously nasty toxins from the air in your home. They are also one of the few air-improving plants that actually produce flowers as well – double win we say.

These wonderful plants absorb benzene, formaldehyde, and trichloroethylene so all the nasties produced by your furniture polish and electrical doo-dads are no match for the peace lily.

Give this a weekly water and a monthly feed and it will go on serving you and your home for years to come.

Rubber Plant
Rubber plants also remove formaldehyde from the air in your home.

As well as their super-plant toxin removing skills, these guys are all connected by being plants that originally come from tropical environments. Because they can grow really well and happily in low levels of light, they are well suited to life on board a spaceship – and in a dark and dusty corner of your home.

Houseplant Tips
The first thing you’ll need is the perfect pot for your air-busting plant. Fortunately for you, we have lots of indoor plant pots for you to choose from. We’ve even got sets of five so you can house all your lovely new plants with one order. Our sea green, raspberry, and cool grey pots come as a set of five in a range of sizes. Perfect for all sorts of indoor plants in all sorts of shapes and sizes.

As ever when you buy any new plant, make sure you read the instruction label carefully. While it is true to say that plants from the same family groups often require the same sort of care some plants do have quite specific needs so it’s always best to check the grower advice.

So, if you’re feeling the dulling effects of sick-building syndrome, or want to make a change for the better in your home, make an easy change to your environment by adding plenty of amazing toxin-busting indoor houseplants. Mother Nature really has thought of everything hasn’t she?
